Change Disk Space Quota
Updated: 29 April 2024In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of modifying the disk space quota for an account in WHM (Web Hosting Manager). This is especially useful if you need to allocate more or less storage to a particular user.
Step 1: Log in to WHM
First, you need to access your WHM account. Enter your username and password to log in as the root user. If you don't remember your credentials, you may need to reset your password or contact your hosting provider for assistance.
Step 2: Navigate to 'Edit Quota'
Once you've logged in, you will see the WHM dashboard on your screen. Click on the 'Account Functions' option on the left panel and then select the 'Quota Modification' option from the dropdown menu.
Step 3: Select the account
Now, you will see a list of all the hosting accounts on your server. Scroll down to find the account for which you want to change the disk space quota. You can also use the search box at the top to find the account quicker.
Step 4: Modify the quota
After selecting the account, you will see the current disk quota for that account. Enter the new quota in the 'Quota' box. Remember, the quota is measured in Megabytes. So, if you want to allocate 5 Gigabytes, you will need to enter 5000.
Step 5: Save changes
Once you've entered the new quota, click on the 'Save' button at the bottom of the page. The changes will be applied immediately.
Congratulations, you have successfully modified the disk space quota for a user account in WHM!
Understanding Disk Space Quotas
Disk space quotas are limits set by the system administrator that restrict how much disk space each user or account can use. They are helpful in preventing users from consuming more than their fair share of resources.
Be Careful With Quota Changes
While increasing the disk quota of an account, make sure you have enough free space on your server. Allocating more space than available can lead to system instability or data loss.
